Lash Lift and Tint: What to Expect at Your First Appointment
By Studio NDB | Manahawkin, NJ
If you've been thinking about getting a lash lift and tint but aren't sure what you're actually walking into — this is the post for you. We're breaking down everything: what the service actually is, who it's best suited for, what happens during your appointment, and how to take care of your lashes after so you get the best results possible.
You deserve to know what you're walking into before you walk in. So here's the full, honest picture — from a team that does them every single day.
What Is a Lash Lift and Tint?
Think of a lash lift as a perm — but for your lashes. A lifting solution is applied to your natural lashes to reshape them from the root, creating a curl that holds for weeks without any daily effort on your part.
A lash tint goes one step further by darkening your lashes so you wake up with visible definition — no mascara required. The lift and tint combined means you look wide awake, polished, and like you tried — without trying at all.
It's a chemical treatment, which is worth understanding before you book. The solution works by temporarily breaking down the structure of the lash hair so it can be reshaped and set in a new position. When performed correctly by a trained technician using high-quality products, your natural lashes stay completely healthy. At Studio NDB, we use only the highest quality products — because we're not cutting corners on something that's going on your eyes.
Safe. Effective. Non-negotiable quality.
Who Is a Lash Lift and Tint Best For?
A lash lift and tint works beautifully on all lash types — but if you have longer, straighter, or lighter lashes, the results are going to stop you in your tracks.
Here's what to expect depending on your lash type:
Longer lashes: Results are more dramatic and visible. The curl becomes a statement.
Straight lashes: Finally curled — without an annoying lash curler, and without results that drop halfway through the day.
Blonde or light lashes: The tint alone is a complete game changer. You'll wonder how you went this long without it.
If you've been getting lash extensions but are ready for a lower-maintenance option, a lash lift and tint is your off-ramp. One appointment every 6–10 weeks — not every two. No fills, no glue, no removing anything. Just your natural lashes, lifted and defined.
Your natural lashes. Just better.
How to Prepare for Your Lash Lift and Tint
Prep is straightforward. Here's what to know before you come in:
Remove your contacts before your appointment. This is a precaution to protect your eye health during the service.
Come with a clean face and clean lashes if you can. No mascara, no eye makeup, no heavy eye creams or lash serums the day of.
Skip the coffee until after. You want to be calm on the table — caffeine adds nervous energy you don't need.
Clean lashes are ideal but not required — we'll take care of you either way. Here's why it matters though: the lifting solution needs to grip your natural lash directly to do its job. Any residue from mascara, oils, or serums can get in the way of that. And since you'll need to keep your lashes dry for 24 hours after the service, coming in with a clean face means you won't have to worry about washing it afterward. Your 24-hour clock starts later. Win-win.
What Happens During Your Lash Lift and Tint Appointment
Your appointment will take approximately 45–60 minutes. Here's exactly what happens:
You'll lie back, close your eyes, and honestly — not do much of anything. We'll apply a silicone shield to your lids and carefully lift your lashes onto it before applying the solution in stages. The solution needs time to work, and we take that time on purpose. Being gentle with the lashes throughout the process is how we maintain their integrity and strength.
This is your time. Bring headphones if you want quiet time, want to listen to a podcast, or have a playlist ready. Most of our clients are half asleep by the end.
Annoying to sit through? A little. Worth it? Intensely.
Lash Lift and Tint Aftercare: The First 24 Hours
What you do after your appointment determines how long your results last. Here's the rundown:
- No water, steam, or humidity on your lashes for 24 hours
- No rubbing or touching your eyes
- No swimming or sweaty workouts
- Try to avoid sleeping on your face or lashes — especially that first night
- After 24 hours, mascara is totally fine — waterproof mascara is a hard no. It's too harsh to remove and can damage your lift.
- We send you home with a lash serum to keep your natural lashes strong and healthy between appointments
- Book your next appointment 6–10 weeks out before you leave
If you're going to use mascara, we always recommend using Colorescience Total Eye Mascara because it is enhanced with a lash serum that encourages length and strength in between appointments. Shop here!
One day of being careful. Weeks of waking up like this.
What Do Lash Lift and Tint Results Actually Look Like?
Here's the honest truth: lying still with your eyes closed for 45–60 minutes is not the most exciting way to spend your afternoon.
But the results? You're going to look in the mirror and wonder why you waited this long. Defined. Curled. Dark. Wide awake. No mascara required. Most of our clients text us the next morning.
And here's the math that makes it a no-brainer: 45–60 minutes once every 6–10 weeks versus 1–2 hours every 2 weeks for extensions. The difference in time, cost, and effort adds up fast.
This is the one that gets you.
Lash Lift vs. Lash Extensions: What's the Difference?
If you've been on the extension hamster wheel and you're tired — a lash lift and tint is your way off. No fills every two weeks. No glue. No removal appointments. No waking up to find lashes on your pillow.
Extensions give you volume and length that a lift can't replicate — but if you love your natural lashes and just want them to look better, a lift and tint delivers stunning results with a fraction of the maintenance.
If you've never done anything to your lashes before, a lash lift and tint is the perfect starting point. Low commitment, high reward, and your natural lashes stay completely intact.
